About Supervision

I’m John Belchamber, a counsellor based on the Sunshine Coast, and an ACA Level 4 Member and ACA College of Supervisors member.

John Belchamber

Before training as a counsellor, I spent over 28 years in people development — training, coaching, consulting and psychometric profiling. That background shapes how I supervise as much as my clinical training does: I know what it takes to build and run a practice, not just what it takes to sit well with a client.

My own clinical work draws on Person-Centred Counselling, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy — I bring that same integrative, values-driven approach to supervision.

How I supervise

I use my own STEP-UP model of supervision — Support, Track, Educate, Performance, (yoU) Self-care, and Practice. It’s a structured way of making sure supervision covers not just your clinical work, but your professional development, your own wellbeing, and the practical realities of running a counselling practice: referrals, fees, time management, and building something sustainable.

Qualifications & memberships

Master of Counselling (Edith Cowan University), Diploma of Counselling (AIPC), Crisis Support Skill Set (Lifeline Australia). Australian Counselling Association (ACA) Level 4 Member and College of Supervisors member.
